I've been an anti-monarchist for decades and I still think the royals are better seen and not heard. However, it's too much bother to get rid of them and I admit to feeling a bit of pro-Charles sentiment lately, something I never thought would be possible.

There’s a new found usefulness in the institution especially to slap down a wannabe fake King. I half expect there’ll be a broadway show about this in ten years

Yes, Harper didn't do pirouettes around the monarch. Mocked or not, it should happen. I know the Queen was getting elderly.

I think a royal should open parliament about every decade. I realize that once a person is aged, it is harder to travel.

He should have done it. It should happen about once a decade. Mulroney and Chretien should have done it as well.

I note Harper because he tried to impart his own respect to the monarchy by hanging a few portraits of the Queen, but was resoundly rebuked and mocked for daring to do so. How times have changed!

I hope Carney agrees to the Western Accord as outlined by Premiers Smith and Moe prior to Trump's arrival in Alberta. It will preempt anything Trump does.
