"This behaviour highlights the ongoing need for greater respect for artists and their creations in our increasingly digital landscape."

I wish it existed, but largely, it doesn't - even amongst those that are generally well-intentioned. I was plagued by it with a photo I had to create a page for the same issue. Certainly my most published photo, but sadly not something that brings any sense of accomplishment. And it probably benefitted the platforms the most, doing their least to combat it. ref: https://www.grafphoto.com/colorful-shore-of-lake-huron-beach-rocks-ontario/

Holy smokes, Mark, what a great resource you’ve created. I’m going to share it will my cartoonist colleagues. We’re a tiny group but we talk about this stuff all the time, and much of what you point out resonates. Thanks for your work in this.

Sorry for seeing this late. I drew a lot of inspiration from the troubles Gary Larson faced, and to this date, I see his work being distributed everywhere, and even sadly sometimes by other photographers who would probably be against unauthorized use of their own work if directly asked. I don’t want to assume it is blatant hypocrisy, just that there is a disconnect somewhere about how much people recognize what they are doing is actually infringing on someone else. And it is rampant with so many things. The social media platforms even promote pages that actively engage in this activity because the algorithms aren’t affected by IP rights. Only maybe if they are reported for such, which is probably a small percentage of the actual content being reposted.

Excellent work. Five years ago, I saw a copy without credit for the artist. I investigated the matter, and that led me to you. I believe your waves has been shared tens of thousands of times, unfortunately, too often without mentioning who created it. I also like your current versions. Thanks for sharing!
